Mt. Teigi

Five-storied pagoda
Mt. Teigi, about an hour away from the center of Sendai by car, is a great sightseeing spot easily combined with a trip to the hot springs of Sakunami Onsen. Located on the mountain is a temple dedicated to the Amitabha Buddha called Gokuraku Saihouji. The temple's gate, five-storied pagoda, and sacred tree have always been closely associated with Mt. Teigi. At the nearby souvenir shops outside the temple gates, you can try sankaku abura-age, a delicious snack made of deep-fried tofu, or miso yakimeshi, fried rice seasoned with miso.
